How to Detail a Truck

How to Detail a Truck

You often vacuum, dust and wash your truck after a long journey with your vehicle. The dirt and oil that your truck picks up is heavy and sticky and often difficult to remove. Trucks are made to perform heavy loading jobs and long travels. If they are not detailed with regular intervals they often look dingy and dirty. Regular detailing increases its life and resale value.

Truck detailing needs a huge amount of water and current regulatory constraints restrict using such large amount of water for detailing. Which creates a big inconvenience. In the given circumstances, it is better to use some refined way of detailing that not only replaces use of water but also is more effective.

What To Do When Detailing a Truck

  1. Washing: The most common bad practice is to use a dishwashing detergent for car wash. Right off the bat, the last thing you want touching the exterior surfaces of your truck is a detergent-based product. If the container doesn’t say car wash, it’s not a ph balanced product and likely contains a harsh detergent.Instead of plopping a wet sponge or car wash mitt onto a dry surface the first step is to hose the entire truck down and soak it with water. When washing, start from the top and work your way down. Next, a bucket full of water sudsy with premium car wash soap is used to scrub every square inch of the truck. The soapy water should not be allowed to dry or it will cause further damage to the finish, so it must be hosed off thoroughly with fresh water.
  2. Drying: Use the wrong material to dry your finish off, especially with black, and you will have at the very least added swirl-marks.
  3. Cleaning Widows: Washing windows on a vehicle, whether it’s a car or truck, is a whole different animal than washing the windows in one’s home. Using a household glass cleaner with ammonia as an active ingredient can be the fast track to doing irreversible damage. Don’t spray directly on the window, but onto a rag. You can even use newspaper to wipe it dry. Have a dry cloth ready to wipe it dry. The glass cleaners in aerosol cans spit and sputter and drip everywhere, use a hand pump for better control.
  4. Vacuuming: The interior is really where you make or break a detailing job. This is where you the client look at all the time. Remove anything that is not nailed down out of the car, floor and mats. A firm bristled brush is good for stirring up the carpet matt so you can get most of the junk out of the carpet. Don’t worry about getting absolutely everything at first; you’ll be vacuuming again after the shampooing of the carpet.
  5. Fragrance: Lastly, you should add a fragrance. Choose a fragrance that will leave a fresh, clean smell. You should spray the carpets, seats, and directly into the vents. This way when you turn on the air – mmm a nice and clean smell comes out again!

Consider Steam Cleaning

A steam cleaner is highly recommended. Detailing should not just be about removing dirt, but about preventative maintenance too. Many parts of a truck are susceptible to rust including areas such as headlight mountings, center hubs, battery trays and underneath parts. Smaller spare parts like ball joints, shafts and bolts also need attention.

Steam cleaning is a good alternative to water truck washing, which has been used for several decades. Steam also helps remove all sticky material on the body and wheels. The interior and exterior are cleaned thoroughly giving them a fresh look. It is easy to remove oily dirt and silt using high pressure steam. This is truly an eco friendly method that preserves our environment. Floor mats and carpet are vacuumed before steam cleaning operations start. Professional detailing using steam has a number of advantages one being the sterilization of parts – inside and outside of the truck to safe guard us from bacteria and viruses. That is essential esspecially after a truck has passed through humid and stormy weather during its long run.

Regular detailing of your vehicle can even help maintain its value so that when you sell or trade it in, you will receive a better price for it. Detailing keeps your truck in tip-top visual shape.
