A homemade engine degreaser is a good alternative for store-bought products. It is easy to prepare, safe for your vehicle, passengers, and the environment, and gives you the same results at low to zero cost.

So, How to Make a Homemade Engine Degreaser?

The beauty of creating your own homemade degreaser lies in the flexibility of ingredients and cost. You can use the items from your kitchen or bathroom, so it’s practically free.

In a series of posts, we will suggest four types of homemade engine degreasers: lemon oil solution, orange oil solution, vinegar solution, and longer-lasting solution. In this blog post, we’ll show you how to create a lemon oil degreaser.

How to Make a Lemon Oil Homemade Engine Degreaser

For this natural degreaser, you need the following:

2 cups of warm water

1 tablespoon baking soda

20 drops lemon essential oil

Procedure:

In a bowl, put the water and baking soda. Mix until the baking soda dissolves. Then add the lemon essential oil. Stir. Pour the solution into a spray bottle.

Spray the degreaser on your engine. Work on one area at a time to avoid the degreaser from drying up. Then wipe it down with a cloth dipped in water. This is to remove all traces of the degreaser. After cleaning the entire engine, leave the hood open to allow it to dry.

Why This Homemade Engine Degreaser Works

It’s the natural substances that occur in the ingredients that make it effective. Lemon essential oil contains limonine, a natural substance occurring in the skin of citrus fruits like lemon. Couple this with baking soda, which has natural cleaning abilities, and you have a homemade engine degreaser that works just like store-bought ones minus the toxic chemicals.

And because it’s natural, your skin and your vehicle’s paint are safe from the damages brought about by harsh chemicals. No toxic fumes that you can inhale too.
