However, your car’s interior suffers from everyday wear and tear just as much as the exterior does. The seats are prone to tears, scratches, spills, and stains. The carpets are exposed to foot traffic, dirt, food and beverage spills, stains, soil, and other things that can mar its beautiful color and the need for carpet recoloring might appear.

Why You Might Need Car Carpet Recoloring

When your need carpet recoloring a simple wash-and-condition may restore its former good looks, but not always. Moreover, there may come a time when thorough washing will not be sufficient. Perhaps your carpet has already seen too many days being cleaned, so much so that the fibers have lost their vibrant color. If you have been too generous with the bleach or too aggressive with the brush during your DIY detailing work, your carpet will certainly show it. Or, you may have no good reason at all for wanting a new color carpet other than that you’re bored with the old one.
In these instances, the best solution to your dilemma is to recolor your carpet. Carpet replacement can cost you an arm and a leg, so this may not be an option if you are on a tight budget. Besides, if your carpet is still relatively new, replacing it is not a good idea. You will still be able to squeeze a few months of use from it if you simply dye it to eliminate the unsightly discoloration.

Here Are the Tools that You Will Need for Your Car Carpet Recoloring

  • Carpet shampoo and conditioner
  • Stain remover
  • Industrial-strength dye
  • Gloves
  • Brush
  • Carpet coating

And Now, the Steps for the Actual Procedure:

  1. Start refurbishing your car carpet by cleaning it thoroughly. The dye will not adhere to the individual fibers unless they are clean. Vacuum your carpet and use your favorite shampoo and conditioner to restore its freshness. Better yet, you can steam-clean the carpets to remove all the dirt and debris that have been stuck in the weave of the fabric.
  2. Use a stain remover for the worst discoloration. Allow the carpet to dry completely before dyeing it. Dye a small area to see how well the carpet soaks up the color, and only then should you tackle larger portions of the carpet.
  3. Spray on the dye in generous amounts. Wipe any excess amount with a damp towel. Work the dye deep into the fabric using a scrub brush, allowing it to seep into the individual fibers. This will give you an even, rich color. Allow the dye to dry according to package instructions.
